Life and death, reflection and contemplation are on the menu for the first ever Cake and Conversation – a Death Cafe to be held in Banbury, Oxfordshire on March 8th 2013..

The event is organised by Oxfordshire Befriending for Life (OxBEL) OxBEL recruits and trains volunteers to befriend people who are living with a life threatening diagnosis. This is the first of 5 “‘Have you heard about Death Cafes?...they're springing up all over the place" events planned to take place around Oxfordshire. OxBEL are looking for suitable venues in Bicester, Oxford, Henley and Witney. planned to take place around Oxfordshire.

There has been huge interest in the event: “As part of our day to day work, recruiting volunteers and talking about supporting those with serious illnesses, we regularly meet people who would welcome the opportunity – and permission - to talk about death.” She said part of OxBEL’s work is to help raise awareness about this difficult subject. Most people have known someone who is very ill or who have died and would like to share their thoughts and reflections but there are very few opportunities to do this in everyday life.
